hmmm I am FAIRLY sure you are correct in thinking about cats not being able to take asprin and dogs being able to ... ( seem to recall a vet telling me as such)..... BUT to be sure ... call a local animal hospital or vetinarian and ask them.. there seems to be conflict re the matter here.. too many differing opinions.. so seek professional advice. MOST should be able to answer simply if asprin is harmful or not. Even perhaps if you ring up with a false emergency like : " My Toy Poodle just ate 1/4 of a mg baby asprin .. will that hurt her ?" (and then see what they say.. ) your dog is 18 .. .her quality of life would be more important to me than quantity.... but I reckon that's how you feel also. If you check with a homepath ( or is that Natupath >>> I get my paths mixed up and I can't spell either).. they might say Willow bark is ok for a dog .. and IF that is the case .. ASPRIN should be fine...

What type poodle do you have? What age is it? You don't give enough information either as to why it could be in pain? If you have a Standard Poodle who is OVER the age of 2 and is in pain I beg you to take it to your vet. If it's over the age of 7 or 8, and it has been diagnosed with Arthritis, a baby aspirin may not hurt it when it's in a lot of pain. There are shots out that your vet can administer to help your dog with joint pain. I did give my older lasso-shitzu mix an advill a day after she was over the age of 10 for her aches and pains...she lived until the age of 19!! It's a tough decision to make in giving an animal people medications and even people food! I don't believe there is enough of anything harmful in one baby aspirin for either the Standard or the Miniature Poodle, the toy or tinier may have a severe reaction...Best Bet is to ask the VET! Your Vet knows your dog best.

Never, it could bleed to death, or cause slow bleeding in the dog!

How do you know it's in pain unless the vet tells you, and then the vet would give you pills only for the dog?

Do not ever hit the dog....just think of someone 100 x bigger than you, and if they hit you....just because you didn't understand their language because the giant did not teach you.

Perhaps your dog needs discipline:
Get a crate (called a house) to put the poodle in at night. Take the dog out of the crate to make it go.
The crate would give the dog a sense of home and confinement so it will go outside when you say.

Again, something is wrong that you are not stating here!

Please do not be cruel to any pet.....sorry!

If you know he is in pain, take him immediately to the VET!

Although aspirin, preferably buffered aspirin, baby aspirin, or ascriptin, is safe for dogs (10mg/lb), you should always consult with your vet. If this is a temporary pain issue, aspirin is fine in short term use, but with long term use, it can be dangerous. There are prescription pain meds for long term use that is not only easier on the dogs stomach, but also on the liver and kidneys.

Your vet will also have the phone call logged into your records, that way, in the years to come, they can look back as a reference to the aspirin use, why and how it worked, etc.

I have a 7 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who get 10mg of St. Josephs aspirin every morning for the arthritis she has in her back. It makes her day much more comfortable. I only started giving it to her after seeking the advice of her vet first. I don't think it is a good idea to give any medication without talking to your vet first.

No don't. Talk to the vet and get some pills specific for dogs. A lot of pain relievers cause intestinal bleeding and unless you have a degree in pharmacology you won't know .

No, I would not especially to a young dog..

Ibuprofen ( advil), Tylenol and Aspirin,, while can occasionally be use din dogs the dosing is very particular and they can cause amny problems..
Also not used in young dogs.. VETS prefer other meds.. Call a VET and ask ..

Id be more concerned why your dog is in pain???

But call the VET and ask.. if nothing else he may give you a dose for one of the above meds...

Good Luck

Generally baby aspirin or a coated aspirin is ok, BUT I'd recommend talking to the vet first for dosage since they'd know the dogs condition better.
