Darn good idea, every artist or interest needs a place where they will be seen and heard regardless of who or what they are.

I agree, it is a good idea, but it is not an encyclopedia, that is an online gallery and there are quite a few of them already.

Now I have a few questions for you, since I have experience in this area:

1) Are you going to censor the content?
2) If not, when someone post kiddie porn are you willing to be arrested for distribution of child pornography?
3) If not, are you going to censor the content?
4) Are you paying for the hosting?
5) Are you paying for the development?
6) If you are not, are you going to charge artists to put up their work?
7) Do you think artist will pay for putting up their work when they can get a free MySpace page and put up as much as they want?
8) Are you going to allow sales on the site?
9) Are you going to pay for the credit card services and dropshipping?
10) Are you going to pay for the SSL certificate?

These are just the top 10, there are about 200 questions you would need to consider before taking on a venture like this.

If you want to promote your stuff here are a few suggestions:

Get a MySpace Page
You have blogs, use them to display your work
You have a website, design it well and display your talent
Use the free search engine placement tools that come with your web site.
Invite reputable mags and periodicals to look at your work.
Enter contests
Do work for public associations where your work can be widely seen
Get sponsorships
Go about looking to see what it take to get your art publicly displayed in the local museums.

Think creatively and you will succeed.

Not unless it has really "far-out" manuscripts that challenges a generation of 30ish year-old minds, so we can finally become the greatest visionaires of all time. For instance, how can one mans' voice "SMASH" an entire field of pumpkins?
