perhaps your approach should be a more a case of what have u got that make you competent for te post. by applying they know you feel competent but u have tell them why you and not some1 else

I feel competent. NO.
It's probably better just to leave the word competent out of it all together.
That word usually has negative connotations, even though you are using it in the positive way.
Everyone is more familiar with calling someone incompetent. Rather than saying "oh, my , how competent is she!"
You see what I'm saying?
Better just stick with the word "confident".
