Not sure why. As long as the hamsters are caged, they will provide some "inaccessible entertainment" for the cat and they should get along fine. So, the issue is you need to be comfortable with the security of the hamster cage - but given that I believe it would be a positive to have both.

No! I raised gerbils and birds for several years, while having several cats loose in the house, and never had any problem. I keep the gerbils in 10-gallon size aquarium tanks with lids that lock. I've tried the plastic Habitrail type cages and wire cages, and the aquarium tank is the best overall. The tank keeps the bedding and other messes confined and is also chewproof, as well as housing the rodents safely out of the cat's reach. The cats sometimes watched the gerbils but mostly ignored them because they knew the gerbils were inaccessible. These same cats also caught plenty of mice in the house during the years I was breeding gerbils.
Incidentally, gerbils, hamsters, etc, love the empty cardboard rolls from toilet paper and paper towels. Also if you put a big empty jar on its side in the corner of the cage that the hamster uses the bathroom in, the hamster will go into the jar and eliminate and then you can just rinse out the jar, keeping the cage bedding cleaner for a lot longer. Out of the three species I raised in the past, mice, gerbils, and hamsters, the hamster was the only one that has this trait.
With the birds, I anchored the smaller lightweight birdcages to the tables with bungee cords and made sure the doors latched well and kept a spring clip (leash snap) on sliding birdcage doors, just as a precaution. The cats again, watched the birds for awhile, then lost interest, while still catching mice that got into the bird room.
The cats watch the fish sometimes but mostly ignore the fishtank completely.

NO! My daughter has a hamster, and we also have 3 cats. They have never bothered the hamster. My kitten likes to watch the hamster run on his wheel or just walk around. The kitten is very amused by it. I have to say none of my cats have tried to get to the hamster. We had the hamster cage on the dresser, and they would jump up to watch it, but never tried to slide it off the dresser. You should be fine!

If you are scared that the cat could harm the hamster or feel you can't take care of both of them then yes. You are thinking of the hamster and what is best for it. Good luck

you don't have to. If your hamsters don't escape their cage, you just need to be sure that kitty can't get her paws into the cage. You may have to buy a new hamster cage, or shut the door to the hamster's room, or put the cage up on a table or pedestal that doesn't have room for the cat to jump on. When you play with the little guys, put kitty in a room by herself, or take the hamsters somewhere away from kitty so they have room to play.
