I'm considering modifying my diet to change some refined carbohydrates to more complex carbohydrates which release sugar slowly into my bloodstream. I already eat as much porridge as possible (as I am Scottish), but I want to try to remove some of the more refined flour and grains (possibly potatoes and white rice) from my diet. Anyone have any suggestions for good alternatives to these carbohydrates?

Well, the idea of whole grain/wheat is that the skins of the seeds are not removed. As in white bread, or white rice, these skins have been removed. In the 'whole' type of these things, the skin is still there, and these contain the healthiest parts of the grain. Think of an apple, it's skin is much more healthy then the apple itself.

I have nearly eliminated wheat, and am doing on very small amounts of corn, brown rice, and other grains other than oatmeal (I eat that about 2-3 times a week). Potatoes I allow, even though I know they are high glycemically, so I eat them sparingly. I try to go for the unrefined (whole) or fresh types of any grain/vege when I do eat it, as they are lower in natural sugar than any refined or processed version

Basically, I just go for the green leafy veges and cauliflower, and cucumbers. Tomatoes too. One can get the nutrients from grains in other foods, I believe, and the fiber too.

Hope this helps.

Good for you. White rice and potatoes on a regular basis are not good for you. All starchy, high glycemic carbs are not good for you as well.

If going for whole wheat, make sure it is 100% SPROUTED whole wheat. This is ideal.

Try eating more veggies to replace the grains. I eat alot of chicken breast, steak, pork chops and fish, with green beans, salads and anything green veggie wise. Avacados are good too.

ok, whole wheat and grains are good for your digestive tract, and also. if you eat white bread, it is just wasted carbs, eat wheat bread because you will benefit from it much more.

eat brown rice, not white rice. eat anything with a high amount of fiber in small amounts, and you will be way more healthy.

research it on the net too
