Didn't their god create darkness too? Is the serenity of night evil?

You ask a good question. I imagine it is partly because before electricity the coming of daylight was a great relief from the terrors of the night, including prowling animals in primitive times. According to tradition, referred to in "Hamlet," a ghost disappears with the coming of dawn. The association of Halloween and night and its terrors goes back centuries. In the mystical tradition, the questing individual experiences a dark night of the soul before spiritual revelation--associated with light---breaks in on it. In Zoroastrianism, the ancient religion of Persia, however, light and dark, good and evil are equal forces prevailing in the world. I think the idea of light and darkness as good and evil has been revised in modern times. Nietzsche, for instance, wished to go beyond good and evil. Some poets far prefer night to day as associated with the imagination and the depths of the unconscious. For them, night and light rhyme. But the conventional view is captured in the Biblical saying, "It is better to light a candle than it tis to curse ths darkness." In "Genesis" God says, "Let there be light" and there was light: the concept is central to Creation.

No it just a metaphor because in the Bible God says we are the Light of the world and most things from that time to now were done at night since God did say something about a "theif in the night" and most people are not afraid in the light than at night especially since the movie Darkness Falls

because evil likes to hide and not be seen so the best place for this is in the dark. when you do something you know is not right you normally don't do it out in the open where all can see it you hide it it the shadows.
and yes God did create the darkness but not for evil. that all together is for another question.

Like a couple of people who have already said this here:

Light is the presence of something..whereas darkness is the lack of light.

Just like that, if the human does not do good, he or she will be inclined to do evil because evil results from the lack of good.

Peace out

Such finally ends up interior the human mind's eye working better than somewhat wild in many circumstances. No, it's just a metaphor. Most bad things happen at night. People hide in the darkness when they do crimes, as not to be seen. Most people are not doing good things at 3 am.
