as some of the others have pointed out.....a step is not blood related at all, they are a child of a new wife or husband. A half is when the children have either the same mother with a different father or the same father with a different mother.

A Stepbrother/sister is the child of your step parent and you have no blood relation.
A Halfbroth/sister you share either a mother or farther.

A stepbrother has not blood relation the relation is through marriage and halfbrother has one of the same parents therfor is blood related.

They are not the same thing.
A 'Step' sibling is one that is no blood relation to you. They are associated to you only by a marriage. Much like a Step-Father or Mother.
A 'Half' sibling actually shares a common biological parent with you, and therefor is of blood relation. For example, if a man has two children, each by a different woman, those children are 'Half' siblings.

half brother is when you are linked by blood to your brother either your mother or father are the same. Say your father married again and his 2nd wife has a son you are therefore half brothers your father is the same. A Step brother is when there is no blood link. Say your father married again and his 2nd wife has a son from her 1st husband. You are therefore step brothers.

Half brother - A brother by one parent, but not by both.

a step brother isn't a blood relation. He is the son of your step mom/dad. A half brother is blood relation. He is either your mom's or dad's son but not from both your parents.
