How's it doing in Sydney and Melbourne? Are the rural areas going more for the fundamentalist churches, or turning their back on Christianity altogether?
The Anglican church has relied too much on being the State Church of England, and expecting generation after generation to follow in line. Anglican is called Episcopal in the US, and that has always been a church of the "upper class" for some reason, even the National Cathedral of Washington DC is an Episcopal church. The bottom line of why these churches are reclining in some areas is that they refuse to evangelize! They refuse to do anything to "get the word out" that this is a major Christian religion that is less judgmental than most; its teachings based on SCRIPTURE<>TRADITION<>REASON. It is the only Christian church that I know of which uses Reason as part of it's doctrine.

It isn't a bad thing. It's time for institutionalised Christianity to be gone from society. It is an anachronism in the modern world.
