my uncle has been a fire fighter for years, and now he is the chief. when i seen him in that get up, he was wearing blue suspenders i dont think that red is mandatory if your wearing suspenders with a fire fighting uniform. but alot of them might be company issued suspenders. so it might depend on what fire house you work at. im sure the suspenders are not mandatory but fire fighting clothes are very heavy.

Not all suspenders are red. Red for EMS (police, fire) usually is a homage for the blood that has spilled from the brothers and sisters who have given their lives in the course of their duty

My Husband is a fireman, and he doesnt wear red suspenders...
mind you, he doesnt wear stocking or womens lingerie either. Stilettos on the other hand.....

They use them to hold their pants up so they won't fall down. Because if you were a fireman, you would be wearing baggy pants.
