Genesis 2:17 (KJV)
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die"
Notice that the sense says that it says they will die on THAT day--not weeks, months, or years later.
Let me guess, "die" means to be "separated from god," so if that is the case, why didn't he say that instead of using the word die?
So why did god lie? Is god a sinner? Seems so.

From the moment they disobeyed God and ate from that tree,they began dying.They lost their perfect state and the prospect of eternal life.Instead they started aging and eventually died.Sin was a death sentence.

God did NOT lie. He told the Truth.
Satan lied.
Eve and Adam believed the lie.
Adam and Eve died.
They were in Paradise.
They had daily communion with their Creator.
They were ejected from Paradise that very day.
Try looking at some commentaries or footnotes in study Bibles. Others have asked this question on Yahoo Answers but you will only get opinons here which can vary greatly.
Remember that you are reading a translation rather than the actual Hebrew. You are putting your own interpretation on THAT day which may very well not be valid.
God does not lie.

God is in fact good all of the time.

God is NOT a liar. He used the word He chose and who are we to question God? Man entered into sin by disobeying God. That meant man would die to sin and be separated from God forever. And Adam and Eve did die to sin that day. That was why God had to send a redeemer so that we would have the way, though we are sinners, to be saved from our sin and have eternal life.

They were in the perfect Garden of Eden. Maybe they would never had died if they didn't eat of the forbidden tree. Death was entered into the world through that one act. God set this whole thing spinning so that He can be glorified through His son. It all started there, He knew it was gonna happen, and there is more to come.
... and you're right. it doesn't say days, wks, months, etc. It also doesn't say instantly. And no. Die doesn't mean seperated from God. That is reserved for Hell. If you choose to die according to God's law. That's where you'll go.

Please notice that the Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew, not English. You've read your own meaning into a statement that could be taken in different ways. Nice try though. I'm not sure why you get off on trying to make something out of nothing however. You might want to look into that.
He said they'd die and they surely did. Had they not eaten of the tree, they'd be alive today and we'd be living in Paradise.

No it's not instant.
