scrape down the insides pretty well, that should help a little. Don't let it be all moist in there

Lemon juice from concentrate. Depending on the size of a pumpkin...us about 5-6 tablespoons and rub it on the inside

After scraping the sides of as much innards as possible, wash them with a mild bleach solution to slow the process of decay.

Pumpkins are 90% water, and are very prone to mold & mildew. Any time you have a pumpkin you want to display, you should immediately dry it off to prevent mold from growing.

Try and buy one that is slightly under ripe as the riper it is the quicker it will get mouldy. get all the flesh out, make sure you keep it in a dry well aired place,

scrape out as much of the seeds and membranes as possible to limit the amount of moisture AND make sure there are enough holes so air can get in. Mold forms when moist air is stagnant.

Dry as best as possible wipe with bleach and coat with petroleum jelly/Vaseline.

Do a lot of internal scraping..... if you're still not sure, buy a plastic one.
