I'm looking for freeware to edit photos. Please provide the name and download site. List the cool features and dificiencies you have encountered when using it. Thanks for your help.

If you are desperate to look in GIMP's direction (personally I am yet to find a decent freeware photo-editing tool but anyway), at least avoid GIMP and look for Gimpshop - at least the layout makes sense and tends to be far less buggy

Freeware painting or photo editing softwares aren't very good. Why don't you run Shareaza, eMule or a torrent software and just download "photo paint", "photo shop" or any such software?
There's no need to pay for something if you can get it for free! :))

Paint.net and GIMP. Both are FREE and are not shareware or trial software.
If you download Paint.net, you have to download the package that includes the Microsoft .NET 2.0 runtime files. If you look in the forums at the Paint.net site, you can download optional plug-in files which adds new functionality to Paint.net. Paint.net supports layers and is designed to be upgradable, so you can add additional painting effects, save in additional file type, etc.
If you download GIMP, you have to download and install the GTK runtime files which are available at that site.

Get the English version, it's fantastic and all you need. I use it over Photoshop because it loads up in about 1 second and does almost everything photoshop does, apart from layers.
