I don't no about cell phones. But outside phone booths that are used by drug dealers are tapped. It's a constant static sound which is off and on. Same applys to a home phone. I requested my home phone to be tapped once to catch someone so thats how i know. But in some states its differant. Some may not even hear this sound. One thing i know home phones can not be tapped without permission. They can be charged for doing that.

Because of the reality of the technology used for cell phones (your conversations are being transmitted through space and air) it is very easy for the police to intercept them and listen in.

And the Patriot Act has made it ok for the police to do without true proof of criminal activity and without a judicial hearing and sign off. I truly doubt the constitutionalism of this portion of the act, but until an innocent, or wealthy, person is harmed and they challenge it, the law will remain in effect and in violation of basic rights as Americans.

Just like the "sneak and peek" the police now can do almost anything to catch you breaking the law. We are nearing the reality of living in a military state under the guise of protection.

I'm afraid.

When they arrest you and show you the evidence in court.

Alll police wire taps are done at the phone company offices at the switching station. So you would have no way to know about any wire taps the police do.

The Patriot Act now gives law abusers more power to dip into our privacy, and not even the biggest, cop @$$ kisser is safe.

Yes, you can intercept cell phone conversations. How do you think the CIA catches chatter among terrorists, and why don't you think BinLaden ever talks on a cell phone?

Didn't you know? They are always listening. Give me a break. If you are doing nothing wrong what good would listening to your calls be to them anyway. I'm sure withe the vast number of extra officers that we have (not) that they have time to monitor all the millions of cell calls every hour.

you dont.
unlike landline phones ( the old analog ones) there is no physical connection made, so there is none of the alleged breathing in your speaker, or a tell tale click after you picked up, or anything like that.

sorry, mate.
