It really depends on which part of the country you're speaking about. The southern coast is far warmer than the area around the black forest, etc. For the central and northern part of France, Fall begins September and moves along much like New York (which is in the same parallel with northern, mid-France.

In northern France, that includes Paris, usually the same time as winter starts in the northeast USA. That part of France, however, doesn't get as much snow as the northeast. Nevertheless, there is plenty of snow in the French Alps, Haut Savoie in the middle southeast.

It really depends where you wanna go. In the North that would be around October / November depending the year. For south of France (and here I mean Riviera) it would be around January. In that area you can still wear a T-shirt on the 16th of December !

officially the 21 st of december till 21 st of march.but in reality it starts earlier like end december.now depending of where you live like south of franc it can be milder and in the montains much colder and even earlier;
