We call chocolate "candy" because it is one type of candy. "Jello" is a manufacturer's brand name for a type of gelatin, but the term has evolved in the U.S. to include all gelatin (kinda like we call all cola "coke" now). In American English, "jelly" is not gelatin, as it is in some countries. In American English, "jelly" is a kind of spread made by cooking fruit juices and then jarred.

first of all we dont call chocolate candy, chocolate is called chocolate. Candy is anything else that is sweet (you call them sweets) as for jello, well thats the original brand of gelatine and it just stuck as a name, our jelly is something we spread on toast, bagels etc. there is also jam (used in the same way) Hope this clears it up for you. Hersheys is probably the most popular chocolate bar, but that depends on personal taste.

I dont usually call chocolate, candy. However, we call it such because it falls into the catagory of sugary treats that are considered candy.
Jelly is not Jello. Jello is a name brand for fruit flavored gelitin.
Jelly is what you spreaed on toast.

Nobody in the US calls jelly jello. They are 2 different things. Chocolate is candy because candy here is synonymous for a sweet, non-cake like snack you can hold in your hand.

And why do you call a TV a telly, and a car trunk a boot? Actually, candy means any sweet, not just chocolate. Popular bar is Hershy.

This final Easter, the Easter Bunny left chocolate jelly beans throughout my dinning room floor. They tasted humorous, they might have been Baker's chocolate jelly beans. i'm tremendously particular they have been jelly beans.
