Many Atheists complain that Christians do nothing but shove their religion down everyone's throat. Well I find that on this forum, Atheists do the exact same thing. I'm a Wiccan, and I get that crap from both Christians AND Atheists. Seriously, it is SO RUDE to tell someone their religion is wrong! Don't you people have any manners? Or did they all get thrown out the window when you became so high and mighty?

Well I believe there's one god, but we all see god differently. That's the view I have on it, and that's how I can freely practice my religion while accepting others as equally valid. As far as I know, Paganism is the only one that does this.

Sorry to burst your bubble, bad liberal, but this question is for everyone. It's not always about you, I suggest you accept that.

Hey Shaz, I see your point, but please don't act like Atheists have been the only ones persecuted. ALL religions have been persecuted at one time or another. Look at Northern Ireland, the Inquisition, the Crusades and the Holocaust. We know persecution.

Okay, fine, just trying to make peace. As the only atheist who got your back up on the puppy question - I notice you didn't lay into theists though some gave you a hard time there too - I felt I should take responsibility. I'm cool with it not being all about me. I withdraw my answer and so, I guess, my unwanted apology. You want your question to lay into atheists - well, there's a lot of it about. We have thick skins.

I don't think manners is the issue. This is a forum where people talk about religion and give their opinions. Unfortunately, many do so in a loud, often rude manner--it has nothing to do, I believe, as to their personal beliefs, but rather, with their personal style. I find those who think they have the world's best comedic minds to be the most irritating because they trivialize religious beliefs and some come into the forum just to try their feeble mind at being funny. Many atheists, Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc., are good people who want to see people get along with each other, but then there comes the simpleton who has to disrespect us here and ask stupid, unrelated questions. There should be a humor question room for them where they don't need a real topic, just a forum for their not so funny humor.

1) tired of getting shoved around by everyone saying "Oh when you grow up/experience life you'll realize there is a higher being" aka I have also seen wiccans be VERY condescending to atheists here.
2) trying to save humanity from itself
3) what's good for the goose is good for the gander
4) you're in a hyper concentrated mix of both so you get skewed results
5) It is quite fun to push the buttons of theists since they usually react totally out of proportion to the situation.
6) ALL religions have basically been out to torture, persecute, and/or kill atheists for thousands of years so a little backlash is not that unreasonable.

Edit:: I am not saying or in any way implied they are the only ones ever persecuted..just happens that ALL religions go after them as the ultimate "enemy"...no one would begrudge jews a little abrasivness to nazis, irish catholics to irish protestants as it would seem natural they would have some negative feelings but atheists are supposed to just smile and be glad and thank everyone for the boot in the nuts?? Doesn't seem very fair does it?

I'm a Christian and I really hate it when people shove Christ down people's throats too. That's not how He wants us to be. And I honestly don't care much what Athiests think, but will listen respectfully anyway.

If I see a question from someone who is obviously not a Christian and they are asking for advice, I try to give them the best answer I can without mentioning my own religion. The only exception is when I have to mention it to show how I'd handle it, but I never suggest to them that my way is the best way.

God may have other plans for them!

I study evidence. As for being a christian, I keep it to myself but only share it with anyone who asks about it.
I have seen people though out all my life who has been guilty for telling others they are going to hell if they choose not to follow Christ.( Even on this site.)
I think it's cruel to tell someone they aren't going to make it because it's not anyones place to judge someones destination. It's evil and it's like telling someone they aren't good enough for God. And when people hear that kind of negative message, who then would want to be a Christian?
I sure wouldn't. So Yes, I agree with you. It is very disrespectful for people to force their beliefs on others.

Right on girl,
Im an athiest studying divinity in aberdeen and the amount of bickering and slighting that goes on in Y/A is incredible. Not even in my course is there this much arguing and certainly not this much "im right, your wrong" crap.
Good question and good point!

Some atheist do that. But the population of Christians doing it is higher than atheist. I do not judge people on their beliefs but yet I see many religious "do gooders" judging me.

Even those I do not agree with your chosen religion. I am a born again christian. But I do agree with your point and it summons up in one word "RESPECT" That is what we need to point first to respect people as people.

As long as so many of the currently popular "ultimate truths" have as their end goal, the destruction of the world, it is necessary to challenge them tooth and nail so that they will not gain enough power to carry out their silly "prophesies". They must be marginalized to ensure the survival of humanity.

In the words of Kris Kristoferson (sp?) "every body's gotta have somebody to look down on". They want to feel superior in any way they can from the breed of dog they have to the car they drive. It's pretty "lame" but "whatever"
