This happens about once every 2/3 days, will not stay on or off, then next day fine again. any ideas please?

I had the same problem, this will sound silly but it fixed mine. Turn it off, and unplug it for at least a minute, also disconnect everything else while unplugged.
Then hook everything back up. It has worked fine since then.

I had the same problem with my VCR. It used to play, fast forward, rewind, play etc when I was no-where near the control (in fact, it would come on when I was watching TV, not a video). Lots of other strange things were happening like the radio switching on and off in the night and the microwave switching on itself. I did some research and found the house I was living in was built on ley lines. Sounds like it could possibly be a poltergeist. Eventually I had to move as it was freaking me out. I just hope you're renting the house. Good luck !!!

Get a TV engineer and a priest to look at it for you.

do you have a playfull ghost?
do you get alot of power surges?
the switch might not be catching - i wouldn't take it apart yourself though..... i had something similar happen with mine, and it was the switch
