for ibuprofen to kick in? I woke up at 4:00 in the morning with awful neck pain. I took about 4 200mg ibuprofen...I think that is the max you can take. That was atleast a half hour ago. What else should I try? I need to get up at six...I really need to go back to bed! Thanks!

Don't take anything else! Sometimes severe pain takes longer to subside than a half hour. If it does not go away today I'd go to he doctor just for the peace of mind.. Severe neck pain is a symptom for many serious diseases. If it's stress, try to relax. The warm bath idea is good if you can get comfy. Dark room, cool compress on your eyes sometimes helps. NO COMPUTER SCREEN! :o) Hope you feel better soon!

Heating pad or a hot towel. And you shouldn't take anything else on top of the ibuprofen. On top of that four is too many. I know it seems like the more you take the more effective it is but that is not the case. Look at the dosage directions on the package.

Typically half an hour to an hour.... as I've heard.

But your attitude can play a big part. If you're sceptical of its ability then it will typically have far less of an effect. I know because I'm practically immune to painkillers in anything but the most serious doses... I simply don't believe in them... and tend to believe more strongly in the pain.

Of course thats only as regards pain...
No matter whether it stops you hurting or not.... it will leave you feeling sleepy and unable to concentrate if you've taken enough...

Well by now I am sure you know the answer.

Two work well for me but takes up to 45 min.
My wife however prefers something else as it doesn't work well on her.

I do hope you got some sleep.
