I haven't seen it yet, but I'm planning to go with the group our drama teacher takes. I love the songs, though!

It's the best musical since Rent.
I've seen it twice, once on Broadway and once in London, and the night after we saw it in London my wife and I went back to the theatre to see if we could get returns. We couldn't.
It's the best score Stephen Schwartz has ever written, married to his best lyrics (reminiscent of David Zippel). The central performance of Idina Menzel (in London cast until January) is breathtaking. I saw Elaine Paige in Sunset Boulevard about 10 years ago. Menzel is better. It's got schmaltz and it's getting a hype backlash, but the truth is it's a great show, and unless you go determined to be cynical and refuse to be swept up in the sheer good naturedness of it, you're going to have a great time.It also has the distinction of being a big budget US production which says some interesting things about how much faith we should put in our politicians. Not exactly biting satire today, but hardly an uncontroversial position to take in 2001 when it was written. My point is it's far from being an empty spectacle, it's got real heart and something to say. Since seeing it in New York I've recommended it to all my friends, 8 of whom have now travelled to London to see it (we live in Scotland) and all have thanked me for the tip.
Is it good? Yes. The only question is do you go to see it with the fantastic Idina Menzel or wait til the new year, when rumour has it that Will Young is joining the cast?

I saw the show in Dallas last year and it was fabulous. The music is wonderful and moves the story along like a proper musical should. The end of act I is awesome. The most famous song from the show is POPULAR. There are other great songs as well, from I'M NOT THAT GIRL to DANCING THROUGH LIFE, and the beautiful duet, AS LONG AS YOUR'E MINE.
GO SEE IT!!!

It is wonderful (as is the novel that is it's basis-though they deviate quite a bit from one another). I doubt I ever watch The Wizard of Oz the same way again. The music is wonderful, the story is compelling, and the dialogue is at times very deep and thoughtful, and others it is just plain hilarious. I would suggest it to anyone!

I happen to love it, but if you are not a fan of the wizard of oz or a fan of musicals in general you probably wont like it. However, the music is incredible, so if you are a fan of music you might be able to look past the theatricality of it

It is very good on several levels. If you take it totally at face value, it's a fun show for the whole family. Catchy music, beautiful costumes, amazing set. If you pay attention to the underlying themes, the show is truly amazing. It's like a whole new show! Very, VERY powerful!!! I highly recommend it!

My friend went and saw it just recently when it opened in London, so this is second hand knowledge. They thought that its a good show but the hype has over taken it to the point that its hard to know if you really did enjoy it or whether you were 'hyped' into it.

Its good, but it has its problems. I think the weakest aspect is the Wizard, originally played by Joel Grey. The songs sound like they were written for him and are rather limp compared to the rest of the score.
