If I travel to Israel I "Expect" to see Jewish traditions, If I travel to Saudi Arabia I would expect to see Muslim traditions....why because the vast majority of the people in Israel are Jewish, the majority in Saudi Arabia are Muslims, am I offened... NOT one bit. A town in Wisconsin just changed the name of their "Holiday Tree" back to a Christmas tree. The change to "Holiday Tree" was in 1995, now they have gone back. The mayor said the vast majority are "Christians" and the towns people are extremly supportive. According to most polls America is 87% Christian, this is our tradition, this is heritage.

Could this be the beginning of the end of Political Correctness in America?

We hear from the very loud voice of the minority
shoving their views down our throats...isn't it time that we (87%) stand up and claim our heritage....our Christian Tradition!

We must all find a way to stand up and claim our heritage in it's entirety, Christian or otherwise, without a "my way or the highway" decree.

Personally I have never had a problem with a Christmas Tree, and never called it a Holiday Tree. However we should all try to practice a level of diplomacy and appreciation for the many other cultures that make up our world.

I don't send Christmas Cards or Christmas gifts to my friends of other faiths. I might give them a Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays.

There is a difference in my mind to honoring your traditional heritage and respecting others who might have different views. You can and should be able to do both.

Hello!! :o) Great message!! I absolutely agree with you. A Christmas tree IS a Christmas tree. However... I don't think it's being politically correct to say that the U.S. of A. [And Canada - where I'm from] is a 'Christian' Country. Even IF the majority ARE Christians. What motivated those who first came to what we now know as the U.S. and Canada was the opportunity to BE FREE of the control that 'religious' leaders had in their birth countries. But that freedom doesn't mean that the 'right thing' to do is to PRETEND that Christianity isn't as important as other 'religions'.

In response to how some have answered your question....

What I find amusing [for lack of a better word] is when someone stomps their feet and protests against the 'Christians' forcing their views 'down their throats'. Let's do the math - shall we? The overwhelming majority of Americans ARE Christians. Therefore - any 'rights' that non-Christians have [and that includes Atheists] have been granted TO those people BY 'Christians'. So show a little respect. Craig!! :o)

The problem with being PC is nobody can open their mouth anymore. What's PC and whats not PC? As reasonable human beings we know what's right to say and what's wrong. The PC Police have gone too far. I believe the word "Christ" is in Christmas for a reason. Let's not let anyone take it out.

the main "competing" religion for a holiday in the vicinity, is Judaism.

the whole idea of calling it "Holiday tree" was *NOT* something jews would have suggested,

in fact most Jews I've talked to, either (like myself) find calling it "holiday tree" either no different than "Christmas tree" or in fact, Offensive.

see.... in personal spaces... why the hell would you have a christmas tree.. even if its not CALLED a christmas tree (obviously thats still what it is...) if you didn't celebrate christmas? for public space... why would it be offensive calling it a christmas tree? its just honest.

honestly the whole thing was, IMO, something invented by christians misguidedly trying to conceed to others.

yes! up and claim it form yourself! don't forget that christmas trees to begin with are pagan, as well as most of easter.

that is, before they were toys-r-us holidays they were pagan.

non-christians would have NO reason to care if christmas trees are called christmas trees.

in fact I don't see how a non-christian could not see calling it a holiday tree as something other than offensive. or at best... no different.

deal with your own self first.

and don't forget, Happy Chrismahannukwanzikah!

Did you need a ladder to climb up on a horse that high?

Numbers can be twisted to prove any point. The only christian heritage that this country can truly claim is puritan and quaker. Both people were told in their own country that they couldn't believe what they wanted. So they got in boats, landed in a foreign land, and told a peaceful indigenous people that they couldn't believe what they wanted, killing them to show them this new "god" beings love.

Here's a few tidbits of knowledge for you:

If, as you claim, you are the majority in America, then you are obligated under the very principals of democracy to protect the rights of the minority...meaning you can't shove this Jesus crap down people's throats with gov't collected money.

The "christmas" holiday has as much to do with Jesus as the moon has to cheese. The 10 commandments state "thou shall not steal" and yet every single method of celebrating the holiday is a complete and total theft and bastardization of pagan traditions...from the tree, right on down to the DAY ITS CELEBRATED. According to the Catholic version, Mary concieved the first week of Dec. and somehow (even though she was human) gave birth less than 1 month later.

I hope that the ACLU gets involved in this, if for no other reason than to pis$ you off.

to be honest with you,

i really couldnt give 2 hoots what the tree was officially called.

if you want to call it a christmas tree...... go ahead

you want to call it a holiday tree....... knock yourself out

you want to call it a big old raspberry tree...... then you go ahead.

if your more than happy to forget that this small 3% is actually representative of millions of people then i guess thats your prerogative...... but america isnt just your heritage or your tradition. no matter what you call your tree (by the by I really question your stats)

you can stand up and claim whatever you like......... however, so can others.

its called democracy.

No, because as the majority we have granted that our heritage will be cherished and valued properly. Since you live in a democracy, you might want to be sure the rights and heritages of the minorities will be respected.

I think you'll find that it's due to your Christian President.

All things aside, Christmas is a religious holiday in name only. Everything that is done at christmas is remniscent of traditional pagan festivals.

I certainly hope it's ending.....it's gotten so far out of control .

It's most from Liberal, radical federal judges making their own laws.
We'll still have problems until we get THOSE guys under control

For instance....check out New Jersey in the news this morning.......

to "puppy"
You are absolutely wrong. Christmas was created for the original reason of celebrating Christ's birthday. It isn't necessarily THE day He was born. We don't know THAT day, but it IS the day we chose to celebrate it. So those of you who don't celebrate Christmas should just go ahead and work that day , cause after all.to you...it's just another regular day
