Ive been there, its not the best part but its not the worst so ive heard!
didnt seem that bad when i was there.

brooklyn is very big. there are good parts and bad parts in brooklyn. there are different racial neighborhoods in brooklyn. you know, a black area, an italian area, a jewish area, etc.
new york city (brooklyn included) as a whole has gotten a lot better than 20 years ago. you're pretty much safe walking around in most places in nyc. you're no worse off in brooklyn than you are in manhattan. it's all just bad luck if you get mugged anywhere.

Brooklyn is enormous. It has rich neighborhoods and poor ones. It has safe neighborhoods in some places. It has rough-and-tough neighborhoods in other places. It has about a zillion different police precincts. If you want to see which parts of Brooklyn were safe, and which were tough, go on the NYPD website and I bet you can find precinct-by-precinct crime statistics for each borough.

Brownsville, Bedstuy and East New york are not very good but other than that every neighborhod in Brooklyn is ok, the Bronx is

It depends on where you go and who you know. I moved there last year and i like it a lot. It has many cultures and different types of environment. If you go by the public hosing sections it tends to get more dangerous. But again it all depends on the area and who you know there.

No its not. Its very eclectic and friendly. lots of different cultures. I loved it. Just remember when you watch the media they will imply that anywhere that doesnt have a 90% white population is a 'bad dark place'! DONT HATE, INTERGRATE!!!
