My friend has a Yahoo.de account and tried to access it yesterday. He couldn't get into his "inbox" but could access his "contacts list". I have tried to send to him and have received a message that his account is discontinued, yet he reckons that his account should be open for 4 months. He last accessed it 31.08.2006 - less than two months ago.

Why is my account inactive?
Yahoo! Mail deactivated your mail account because:
You have not logged into your mail account during the past four months; or
You have requested that Yahoo! Mail deactivate your account.
What does this mean?
All email messages, folders, attachments and preferences have been deleted and cannot be recovered.
All messages sent to ****@yahoo.com are being returned to the sender.
You can still use your Yahoo! ID to access other registered services on Yahoo!.

Well yahoo says that it will remove any email account if it is not yet been opened with in a month but it will give a chance to the user to re-open their account with in 60 days after the first one month. But sometimes due to the load of customers and on site they will leave it for some days as a pending work but sometimes if they have no load on them, then they finally terminates the user account with in the given time.

If an account has not been logged into for over four months, it will become "dormant."
Dormant accounts are de-activated at the end of four months.
