To get started, I suggest contacting the Small Business Administration Financing Page (SBA) – links below. Entrepreneur also offers a great site dedicated to money & finance – see below.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Free Money for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs by Laurie Blum
* Finding Money: The Small Business Guide to Financing (Small Business Series) by Kate Lister, Tom Harnish
* Financing Your Business Dreams With Other People's Money: How and Where to Find Money for Start-Up and Growing Businesses by Harold R. Lacy
* No Cash No Fear: Entrepreneurial Secrets to Starting Any Business with No Money by Terry Allen
* Starting on a Shoestring: Building a Business Without a Bankroll by Arnold S. Goldstein

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Your question is to vague to answer specifically because it depends what kind of business you are talking about. Are you looking to sell products or services? Do you have sources for products and/or clients lined up for services? Do you have your business licenses and Tax IDs already??? Do you have a business plan? There are some businesses that you can start for $100 while others need thousands of times that amount. Once you have a concrete plan of what you want to do and how you intend to do it, you'll know if $2,000 is enough. There are alot of books in the library that can help you write a business plan, learn about the different phases of entrepreneurship that you should focus on to save time and money, and creative ways to market your products and services. You have taken the first step by stating what your goal is. Once you define that goal, take the next step... then the next... until you reach your personal and professional goals. Others have done it successfully. Some needed more than $2k, some did it with less.

Try a web business and have a website. Remember a lot of business companies get loans to start out. Also you could get a marketplace stall.
