Visit the website of the hardware manufacturer. Normally, you can find a driver update there.
If you do not know your hardware manufacturer or hardware model, click Start Menu > Run > Type 'dxdiag'. Search for your hardware there. Like for instance, if your looking for your graphics card model look under the Display tab.
Once you have your hardware manufacturer and hardware model, search for it at Google or Yahoo or any other good search engines.

Hey!!
XP is one of the easiest OS to operate and updating or reinstalling drivers is usually not a problem! And the Windows Update feature is a lot of help in locating the appropriate driver for your hardware. There is also the Driver Rollback feature in XP which can help you fix problems by going back to the last known device driver installation on yr PC.
Also Microsoft White Pages and support.dell.com usually provides good info! If you are doing this for the first time, please call up your tech support helpline or have an experienced buddy help you out!!
To access Update Driver and the Driver Rollback Features easily - Check under System Properties> Hardware> Device Manager> Click on the appropriate Hardware Device and double Click on it to open the Device Properties window> Click on tab labelled Drivers....You will find buttons labelled with Update Driver and Driver Rollback on them)
You could have received a drivers cd from your computer manufacturer when you purchased the pc - that is the easiest way to install drivers.
For a complete reinstallation, (ie after say a clean reinstallation of XP), I would suggest that you install the Chipset drivers, then the Video drivers, then the Audio, then the Network, then Printer, Camera etc etc...
For updating any hardware drivers, the best thing is to visit the manufacturer's website for the latest update - like for example if you have a Creative Sound Card, you can go to their website and download the latest driver update for your device!
NOTE:: From personal experience, for Dell and IBM Computers, you can get the best possible help directly from the websites - you just need to enter details about your machine like a serial number or the machine type and the system locates your drivers for you!

The first thing to do is run any cds with device drivers on it that came with the pc along with the restore discs. After that check to see what drivers you are missing specifically under Device Manager in the My Computer properties, which you can get to by going to the My Computer icon and right clicking on it and going to properties then going to the Hardware Tab.
If you do not see the ethernet controller missing with a yellow question mark beside it, go online and go to windows updates which is located on the tools tab in internet explorer on the top. When the screen comes up select custom so windows can look for additional drivers beside the high priority drivers. When it completes the scan, you will see the high priority updates but to the left you will see a hardware tab you can select to see those updates, go to that and select all the hardware updates, that should take care of some of the missing drivers. You will probably have to restart the computer after it installs the drivers.
The next step is to go to the manufacturer's website such as HP, Dell, or whatever type of pc you have. The best way to get to their drivers site is go to google.com and type in whoever the manufacturer is and drivers such as Dell drivers as an example. Select the site that says support or drivers. Once you get there put in your information such as the make and model of the computer and the OS which is XP, then you can select the drivers that you need. Open up Device Manager again to see what you need specifically. Select and install the ones you need,
it should take care of most of the drivers.
If you still are missing some drivers a great site to go to is driverguide.com. You can become a member for free and has a database of over 400,000 drivers. Just type in the Manufacturer and what type of driver it is. This should take care of your drivers. If you are still having problems post the missing drivers and I'll see if we can find them for you. Best of luck

Either try doing Windows Update, under Tools in Internet Explorer, or by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the driver package.

It depends on the drivers that are missing. If you right click on my computer......go-to properties.... hardware tab.......device manager button..... click on the main device item the + beside it ...... for example monitors..... then right click on your device that is listed and choose update driver. If you have the driver you want... point the update to the location you have it stored... or you can have it search Microsoft for the best driver.
