Taxi can work out really expensive if you are planning to use them all the time in London. Its roughly £2.50 but I'm not sure per every mile or every two minutes if you happen to be stuck in traffic. A weekly travel card would be the best answer as you can get to basically everything you need with a zone 1/2 card and that includes buses too. Its £22.50 a week but if you get yourself an oyster card which you can at any tube station then the price is cheaper. You can either top-up the money on it or you can have a travel card put on it. Best way I should say as I have one and its better than those stupid paper tickets. Depends what way you want to use your card, you can either have free one or have to pay a nominal amount which is refundable.

Taxis are OK - never more than £20 for inside the city. You can buy a weekly Tube/bus pass for under £25 that allows you travel anywhere within Zones 1& 2, day and night for the whole week. You can use it on the Tube, Busses (including night busses) and overland rail within the zone. Probably best to get one of these.

Taxi's in London ('Black Cabs') are a complete rip off! Get a weekly tube/bus ticket (Oyster Card) from any tube station.
Here are the details about Oyster Cards which you can buy from tube stations. The Card costs 3 quid, but that can be returned if you had the card back when you leave London.

Taxis can be expensive but it depends on how long a journey you want to make. For the tube you would be best with an Oyster card. See the Transport for London website for further information.

Taxis are quite good value in London, especially if you don't travel alone. However watch out for those Nasty Nigerians in Toyota's, you don't want to be another statistic- stick to licensed hackney carriages.
The tube is expensive, and slow, and unreliable, and stuffy...
You can walk from one side of Zone 1 to the other in just over an hour, or in 25 minutes by bike.
