Levi Strauss was a maker of sails. He got caught up in the gold rush in America and there weren't too many people needing sails. He had sail cloth with him . It came from Demeen in France hence the name Denim. He used it to take trousers for the miners,using rivets to hold them all together.
Hence blue sail cloth, blue jeans.

They were green, not blue, initially, since they were made from hash. Now the drug is obviously classified a narcotic so it's no longer used for that, which is a pity, because it was a great, natural, breatheable fabric (no pun intended!)..

they weren't. originally they were all a dark green...........
