Fighting poverty is not totally a lost cause. In any develop country there tends to be rich and the poor where the rich get richer whereas the poor remain the same. It depends on the government effort to help the poor, some government is willing to spend more effort to help the poor whereas the rest provide the means for the poor and the poor have to go and apply for the help.
Sometimes it is the view of the society that the poor feel embrassed to apply or accept the help that is being granted to them. So I feel that it is the society that made the poor feel helpless

What kind of poverty are we talking about? Poverty exists in 2 forms: Material poverty and Moral bankruptcy. I believe that when the former lessens, the latter increases. Either ways, our world won't be a happy world!

No, not at all. In the fight against poverty, education is the key. We should send the unskilled workers back to school and support them for their pursuit of education.

ONLY if the poor stop fighting... ONLY they can turn their lives around...being handed money will not help them. They, making different choices, will turn things around. We all have choices to make each day, some just choose differently which is why we are all where we are today.
