I think it's due to more blood being directed there by our body in order to warm it up

because blood flows into the arteries. This happens to increase the temperature of the nose because it becomes cold due to exposure to the environment. Basically to balance the body temperature and increase if the body temperature wherever required.

It's called capillary action. For your nose to be able to function correctly, i.e. filtering all the crap out of the air, it needs an adequate supply of blood. When it gets cold the blood thickens in the capillaries and starts to slow, thus denying the affected area of enough blood. The body reacts to this by forcing more blood through the capillaries, making them larger and more apparent.

When your body gets cold, the blood rushes around to try to warm you up - if it's just your nose that gets cold, then a red nose will show up more against a pale face.

Well, that's what I think anyway.

Sometimes, it'll go red when you have a bad cold (pos to do with the blood vessels getting overworked when you blow your nose a lot). In hot temperatures, it could be sunburn!!!

Like the others have said, it is the blood rushing to your nose to keep it warm. Because people's noses stick out so you can't keep it as warm, as lets say, a hand, that you can put in a pocket.
