Last year I was in India and couldn't work it out.
What I really need is a test that one can do in the shop.

If you put a bit of the silk in biological washing powder (because everybody has washing powder when they go to the shop, duh!), it should kinda melt coz its made of protein. If it isnt... it gets quite clean.

Did you try feeling them?

I used to find it impossible to tell the difference at first, but once I grew more familiar with the materials, I could tel lthe difference.

It should be incredibly smooth, but not fall apart when you tug on both ends
