There's no single answer. One factor is your prior experience with pregnancy - if you have had failed IVF cycles, you might be more inclined to try more. Another factor is what day the transfer is done. Clinics doing day 3 transfers are more likely to transfer 3. Clinics doing a day 5 are more likely to transfer 2 - waiting till day 5, weaker ones tend to have died off, and the chances on the remaining transfers are higher. Finally, your own feelings play a part. My clinic strongly, strongly discouraged bearing triplets (or more). Essentially, if you got pregnant with triplets, they would recommend selectively terminating (aborting) one of the three. If you were not prepared to do that, they would have likely cautioned you to only transfer 2 at a time (on day 5).
The advantage of doing more (rather then freezing, and transfering in small groups) eggs right up front is that the freeze/thaw process is hard on the embryoes.

My sister is an ivf mother with 2 beautiful children, does your Dr not tell you how many eggs? She was told only 2 because if they both took, then you would have twins, but if they then both split to form identical twins that may be 4, far too many to carry for a really safe pregnancy, so any more would be a big risk. look the likely hood id slim, but miricals happen. I would suggest 2 at a time, and wish you all the luck in the world, what is meant to be will be, there is no right or wrong number.

We have been fortunate to get pregnant on our first IVF attempt - we did no longer use an egg donor. Our retrieval and fertilization value became low - 11 retrieved yet basically 2 fertilized . . . so we opted to flow the two accepting the possibility of twins. i'm now 15 weeks pregnant with twins - wager we lucked out as the two effectively implanted! We had some ultrasounds such by way of fact the nuchal translucency ultrasound (assessments for Downs) and each little thing is interior of popular stages . . . so we are praying for a persisted wholesome being pregnant. like the previous poster pronounced - IVF is a curler coaster - emotionally, bodily, financially, spiritually - you call it we struggled with it! We had a stunning IVF center that became affiliated with the Dr. Domar center (she wrote the e book Conquering Infertility) so I additionally had the prospect to apply acupuncture, individualized counseling classes as nicely as turning out to be a member of a women's help team particularly for those scuffling with infertility. i've got self belief that this helped us to succeed on the 1st attempt. maximum suitable needs!

I just completed my first cycle of IVF this month. I just found out on Tuesday that it was successful. I had 6 eggs retrieved, 5 were mature and all 5 fertilized. We transfered three embryos. We used the best that we had which was one 7 cell rated good, one 6 cell rated fair and one 5 cell rated good.
My doctor told me that the more embryos that you transfer the better your chances. This is because the 'not-so-developed' embryos will help your body generate the pregnancy hormone and make the best candidate attach to your uterus. But of course this increases your chances of multiple babies. And you may need to consider selective reduction.
Good Luck with your cycle!!!

My sister inlaw went through IVF for many years, the doctors usually recommend putting back 3 eggs, so hopefully atleast one will stay. I think i would have 3 put back to increase my chances......but than you have to think how you would cope if all three took??
