For starters, because it's fun. (Cults, not so much, that's for another time.) It answers or begs to answer the question are we really alone? Secretly we hope not, and hope they are friendly, too. Man has to ask questions, he can't help himself. And he can't help exploring and digging to understand the unknown. That's just human nature. If there is a rock in our path someone has to overturn it and see what is under it. And someone else has to try to break it and find out what is inside.
I wouldn't discount everything though, true you may not have proof of ghosts, for example, but a lot of people have seen or heard dead relatives. Can everyone be dillusional? Not likely. I've seen ghosts and I know I'm perfectly normal (Stop laughing). Really take a rational look at intuition, it's gotten a lot of people out of a scrape, or into one. Cops use it all the time and we let them carry guns.
Not everything is true, and we'll prove that for some, others will remain a mystery. But regardless we as a race will keep on digging, 'cause that's what we do.

Wrong, I especially hate it when people just assume that their point of view is right so I'm going to explain somthing to you guy's. How is it logical to sit here and say that most mythology about let's say Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosts, and Bigfoot couldn't possibly be true. Well, let;s look at this. Mesapotamia is scientifficaly proven to be man's first civilization. When scientists discoverd Mesapotamia, they also discovered their mythology. Their mythology consisted of, surprise, Incubus and Succubus, Lycanthropes, and a whole lot of other famous mythologic being's. Incubus and Succubus is just anouther name for Vampires just like Lycanthrope is anouther name for Werewolve. But, now here's the kicker, when the scientist's found this, they probably just brushed it off of their shoulder's and went about their buisness thinking that it was all in their imagination. But, when other scientists from all around the world started uncovering ancient temples from Rome, Brittin, Ireland, and so on, they discovered that ALL of the ancient civilizations had at least one of the mythologic being's listed above if not all of them but in different names. Now, many people will argue that it was just a simple story that was told by an old man sitting around a campfire trying to scare the crap out of a bunch of kid's. But, if that were true, then how did it go from one part of the world, let's use Brittin for example, all they way to places like Ireland and Rome which are thousand's of miles away. It's not possible for just a little campfire story to go all the way around the world and cause that much of an impact on the everyday lives of ancient people. Every civilization has had one famous mythological being that was either feared or respected back in the ancient times. The question that scientists are asking is, how is it that all of the ancient civilizations from around the world all believe in at least one or more of the being's listed above, especially if they had had no contact with each other or lived thousand's of miles away. Now, I'm not saying that Rome had no contact with Brittin, because it did. And some people will say that they simply took on the beliefs of the Brittins. But, I do know that Ireland had no contact what so ever with Rome back in those times, yet, the Irish still believed in basicaly the same thing. The same is true for other places around the world. Scientists can't explain it. And, even more fascinating is the fact that all of these myth's have been passed down from generation to generation up untile now. That is what is really, truely unbelievable. It is said that every myth has at least one grain of truth to it. How can you believe in God if not the Devil. It is said that before the Bible, God made himself known to the people back in the ancient times, why couldn't the Devil have done the same thing? Not everything is as black and white as people think it is. Look up some history, the REAL cases, not just stories and i'm sure you will change your opinion. And, i'm not saying that any of these myhtological beings are real, i'm simply stating the fact that it is UNREAL for all of these tale's to reach around the world in such a way that it became a part of every ancient civiliztions normal way of life.

Loch Ness Monster - in all risk no longer. the unique 1934 image has been shown to be a hoax and many the sightings on condition that then have been extraordinarily doubtful. Bigfoot / Abominable Snowman - quite the comparable element yet in diverse areas of the international. achievable that they exist, in small numbers, in very remoted places. i'm going to sense quite sorry in the event that they ever do locate them, by way of fact they gained't stand a guess against cutting-component people, in each experience.

People need to believe in something.
Mythology started long ago, before entertainment as we know today. It was a way of telling a story, kinda like reading a children's bedtime story. I believe the story's started small and in time grew.
Hope this helps.

the weirdest of all is the believe that the 'god' of moses is the true god and that the bible is the word of this god. have just been reading that moses was a priest in a monotheistic egyptian cult. truth is much more fun than myth.

No, kicking your *** and calling you names all day makes me feel good about myself. The other stuff is just cause I don't really have anything better to do with my time. P.S. Vampires are out there somewhere and I hope to become one someday.

It's simple, really.
By believing one of these to be true, I naturally believe myself to be smarter than scientists. Or if I don't believe it to be true, but claiming that I do, I prove to myself that a) I'm smarter than people that believe me, at least enough to listen to my story, and b) I know something they don't know, which is that I don't actually believe the story.
