The whole of history has been edited! You never see the version written by the losers.
Take what you read with a healty amount of scepticism, and always try to get both sides. Thats just my thoughts.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara didn´t want to be allied of Moscow . He was a pain in the neck for Castro. So, Fidel sent him to South America to spread the revolution, knowing he couldn´t reach any success. Even knowing he could be killed as finally happened.
The Motorcycle Diaries were written before "Che" arrived to Cuba and were took fm letters he sent to her family and freinds to Argentina.
He belonged to a middle high class family and got the degree as doctor of medicine. After worked as a doctor for a while he realized of the social unfairness in the Argentine society. Then he decided to start a long trip through America seeing more and more unfairness in every country he visited.
I suppose that if you read a Cuban edition of his diaries you will find a clear communist /castrist tendency.
But there are many books abt him published in Argentina ( and other countries) written by independet writers free fm any communist influence.
Regards fm Argentina and sorry for my English. Feel free to correct.

It is good that you ask the question, as the movie attempted to glorify the man once known as Che. Indeed, if he was anything like the young man portrayed in the movie, that being driven to do what he could to help the poor and destitute, then I would've liked him. However, let us not forget about the brutal methods that he applied to spread Communism throughout Latin America. Indeed, some of the tortures he devise for political prisoners in Cuba were very inhumane. Oddly enough, the movie fails to mention this portion of his life, though it does attempt to evoke sympathy for him by mentioning his demise.

What Communists? It's based on Guevara's actual diaries made at a time before he became a political activist of any sort. Why would the 'Communists' alter it to suit themselves and more to the point, how would they?

Well they were published after he became politically active so I imagine that parts were - let us say- revisited with what happened next in mind. They were about his increasing radicalisation were they not? The Alberto Granado Diaries of the trip were most definitely written in hindsight by the man himself as far as I can make out....
