The movie is a Christmas western, great scenery too! Hard to tell when it took place. It's about a widow and young son who live on a small ranch and is aided thru a wintery Christmas by a stanger-cowboy. They come to care for each other very much, but in the end the cowboy leaves. Tugs at your heart strings! Probably made in the 80s or 90s....help. please

Sounds like "Three Wishes" starring Patrick Swayze & Mary-Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

It isn't "Shane" Shane starred Alan Ladd, Van Hefflin, etc was made in the early 50's/60's. Most Westerns have this same familiar ending of the do-gooder hero, who rides in at a crucial moment into the lives of the weak, opressed and destitute, sets things right and rides away into the sunset - with the star cast and the audience in tears. Can't put my finger on it yet but will. Then I will let you know.
