Just be patient and get the 2-d ultrasound at 20 weeks. Also there is a blood test you can do now that is new, but I don't know the name of it, you can google it though......

Keepsake Ultrasounds
Today there are centers that use ultrasound to produce 3D videos and portraits of a fetus. These "keepsake" videos show facial features, fingers, toes, the baby's sex, and movement.
Many parents enjoy having these moving portraits. However, not much is known about the effects of repeated exposure to ultrasound. It seems to be safe, but it is possible that problems could be found in the future.

Moreover, the workers at these centers often are not trained to interpret the images for you. Based on the ultrasound, you may be falsely reassured that your baby is doing well, when in fact there may be a problem. Or, you may be alarmed that the image shows an abnormality and, because these centers are not medical facilities, you will be left without any professional help. Obstetric ultrasound is best obtained through standard prenatal care.

Week 16 ultrasound -with around 70% accuracy. However, this is totally dependent on the ultrasound technician's ability.

Week 20 + should provide a clearer view of the sex organs.

Regarding a 3D ultrasound, it is used for diagnosis right from the first few scans. However, It is very useful after week 20. Simply because, there is a lot of facial development that has taken place by then, and the parental bond created by viewing a 3d is better. A 3 D scan will also proivde a good view of other diagnostic aspects like growth, potential defects, abnormalities, etc.

Good Luck.

I'm 36 Weeks Pregnant. I had my 3D Ultrasound done at 28 weeks, I wanted to go earlier but for some reason they told me I had to wait till then.
If you just want to know gender You only need a 2D & they can tell you at about 20 weeks, but thats only if the baby is in a good position.
If You want good 3d pictures, then wait untill 32 weeks when your baby will have more fat deposited under its skin.

No! they scan you with the regular ultrasound machine and then 3d the images. You can find out with the regular ultrasound machine its no better when it comes to finding out the sex of your baby, the only thing it does is make it in 3d image. My doctor office suggest people should have it done around the 28th week to 32 week. Good luck and Congrats.

I have a friend that had a 3d ultrasound done. The only real differance is that it is easier to see facial features. The earliest you can know the sex would be about 4 months. congrats and good luck. go to www.verybestbaby.com very cool calendar that will keep up with your pregnancy and tell you when everything is developing.

It's still too early to find out, and the 3D won't tell you earlier. The baby's sex organs become visible at a certain amount of weeks, I'm not sure how many it is. Sorry, you'll have to be patient.
Here is a very good site on pregnancy, you can find out just about anything:

Gender is not done in 3d its only done in 2d. I read a really good article about times for a 3d ultrasound and the best time for your gender scan. http://www.ciu4d.com/3dultrasound and http://www.ciu4d.com/genderdetermination Great informative articles

They can usually tell you by the third month, but wait till at least the fourth. That's when I found out what I was having.
