I like the question. I wonder about this stuff too. Why are they wearing the veil? So that men are not tempted by them, yeah? So male Muslims cannot be trusted not to be lured by women unless they are covered from head to toe? Doesn't say much about the strength of a Muslim male's convictions does it?

or am I a total ignoramus and I've got the wrong end of the stick here?

Sadly, the only thing that will prevent rape is a universal system of good education coupled with a decent, safe and loving upbringing (with both male and female role models) - two things that are actually in decline in this country (UK).

My guess is that most rapists were abused as children and not educated enough to understand what they are doing to another human being. Not trying to excuse them here, you understand, just explaining.

Nope, a veil is not going to do the trick, and to think so really shows a misunderstanding of what rape is.

No, you haven't a sick imagination. Read a BBC report on:

Because of Islamic law, Pakistan has no laws against rape, unless there are FOUR male witnesses. As a result, rapes and gang rapes are out of control in this cruel, barbaric and medieval country.

I don't think so, women in Sudan wear veils yet they have been victims of brutal rapes in their own country by evil men. Rape is power issue, not only a sexual one, so in my opinion covering yourself up will not really deter a rapist. I also don't believe that women should a sheltered life, and suffer because maybe an evil man will come along and rape her. I'm not going to let my quality of life be destroyed by fear of rape, but on the same hand I'm not going to go walking around alone at night in a short skirt and revealing top.

I find it strangely weird that every time one of the people like him say something that is hurtful and disrespectful to our women we have suddenly taken it out of context, but say one thing about their women wearing veils and were been racist, things so have to change before it really gets out of hand, as for raping a women, the rapists don't give a damn what a women wears, it has nothing to do with their clothes for the sickos that rape.

Doesn't matter what you look like or if you can see their face, rape is rape, and if someone's gonna do it I doubt it'd matter what you look like or if you can see their face or not. Maybe not the best quote to use, but when it comes to rape you would think that "you don't look at the mantlepiece while you're stoking the fire" would ring true, since rapists only want sex.

As for those comments made in that news article, are people getting dumber and dumber? Seems like every 5 minutes somebody says something, only for them to retract it shortly afterwards. Don't people ever think before they speak anymore? Engage your brains people!

No. Some men don't discriminate in age, sex, clothing etc when they rape. You hear about old ladies being raped. The Muslim cleric who said the veil prevents rape is ignorant of the females in his religion. The news is on soon in the UK

I don't think so. Wait until they come to a big city. It can happen in all walks of life. Saddam's sons raped thousands of women. Did the veil prevent that?

Yes! Because rapists have no idea who is under the veil. It could be a super strong man who would beat them to a pulp.
