It seems that people today are more mean, insensitive, rude, selfish, shallow, superficial (to name a few negative characteristics) than ever. I see this on the micro level (e.g., my individual everyday interactions) and the macro level (e.g., politics, business). I'm trying to determine if it's just my imagination or the true nature of the world today.

I think people are just as rude today as they were before, the difference is in how it's displayed. Today we have a more "global" community, we know what's happening on the other side of the world within minutes, but we don't know the names of our neighbors. The people that you interact with in your everyday life don't have to face the consequences of being rude, unless you belong to a smaller group that has a stronger bond. When the communities was smaller and people had to rely on each other to survive, most people thought about how they acted and what they were saying because it could directly effect them. In politics and business there has always been a power struggle, but today we see more of it because it's reported in the medias, and they also use the media to backstabb each other.

The old Romans was asking themselves the same things so I don't think it's worse, only different.

it's all a matter of ethics. that's why the rudeness, the selfishness, and more.and that's because the most important pursuits are money and power. these two make people more insensitive and mean in order to get what they want. and it will never stop. it's the history of the universe...sad to acknowledge such thing, even more when you don't know where it will lead us all. and far more disappointing is the fact that as much as many people try to change this condition, evil (almost always) wins...

NO, there are simply more people now than there was 75 years ago. There has always been rude, shallow, selfish people breeding which in turn passed the trait along.

no. they are not worse but the economic crisis is worsening these days especially in Africa where there is poverty. this moulding different people with different cultures to certain levels with certain behaviours. this needs behaviourists(psychologists) to intervine in this to assist the world. this is also caused by capitalists who are manipulating others and other developed countries

hope this will answer your question partly

thanks

What days are you comparing it too? Slavery is illegal, we don't have gladiators, we're not forcing people to build pyramids. If you research, I honestly believe people are becoming more spritual. It just hasn't made it to the leaders of the world yet.

It really does get worse every generation. Because rude parents' kids become little more rude and their kids grow little more rude and on and on.
