-Sikkim is a pleasure to visit all year round. Carry woollens all year round. While most places in East Sikkim (Gangtok) accept credit cards, the relatively smaller towns of West Sikkim do not.
-Use of plastic is strictly prohibited
-Rainwear is a must in any season.
-All foreign tourists other than from Nepal or Bhutan require a passport with an Indian visa prior to arrival.
-Foreigners require an inner-line permit to enter Sikkim which is valid for 15 days and can be extended by the tourism department by another 15 days.
-Money :The currency used in Sikkim is Indian rupees. There are few places to change money at Gangtok. Travellers cheques can be en-cashed at the State Bank of India, Gangtok Main Branch.
-carry some essential medicines for fever, nausea, headache, indigestion etc. High pressure, and asthma patients should get a proper checkup done before going to high altitude zones.
-A 10% tip is the norm in high-end restaurants that do not add a service charge to the bill. Small change in modest restaurants is acceptable. Round off taxi fare; add more for exceptionally good service. Tip porters 1 rupee per bag. For more on business and social etiquette.
