I removed all of the screws from both the doorknob and the latch, however I still couldn't remove it. There are a couple of depressions on the neck of the doorknob on the interior side of the door and one on the neck of the doorknob on the exeterior side, however there are no screws on the neck. What is the trick to removin the mech? If it makes a difference the latch plate has the name weiser stamped on it.

Depending on the door hardware, You would also need to remove the latch part that is screwed into the side of the door. This is the part that sticks out and rubs against the strike plate that is screwed into the door frame when you shut the door.

Some units must have the key in the hole and in the unlocked position in order to remove them.

I think this is your type - Some have screws under the scusion plates (the round part that hides the inner workings of the unit and are tight against the door itself) if you take them off they have screws holding the inside and outside of the unit together.

The only other thing I could think of would be it's painted fast to the door.

Hope this Helps!

tough to answer without seeing it. there mite be a push tab at the base of the knob ( little silver piece) push it with a screw driver and pull on the knob. there mite be screws under the trim escutcheon. there mite be (at the strike) a small hole if there is you need a allen wrench to lose a screw thats back there. OR!!! get a big sledge hammer and beat the thing till it falls off ( just kidding)
