it's mean :
- all your ex-boyfriends picture will be erase from your computer.
- you must type all your works again (if you didn't backup it to another place)
- You must play all your games from level 1
- is like the first time when you meet your computer.
- You need to download all the mp3 files again from internet
so..... remember to backup all your files first before reformat it.

I feel what you mean is formating the hard disk and not formating.
Formating means all the data in your hard disk will be completely erased. This process may also help to remove bad
sectors from your hard disk. After reformatting all the data can be loaded again. Make sure that before formating your hard disk,
you copy all your data into a CD or another hard disk, so that you can reload the same after formatting is completed.

reformat or format means everything on your pc hard disk is erased, and then all software is installed again, so it becomes as good as a new computer. You can do it yourself if you have a windows installation cd, after copying all necessary files from your hard disk on a cd/dvd, because in formatting all files on the hard disk are lost, so you have to copy them on cds beforehand.

1)Backup everything u need(including messages and address book archives)
2)Type format C: \s
3)Repeat step 2 for all drives u want to erase changing the drive letter.
4)Reinstall ur OS and other necessary s/w

Means that the hard drive of your PC needs attention due to one of these cases:
1) Your hard drive crashed (virus may be) and you need to check if its reusable
2) The "someone" wants to remove all previous data contents from your hard drive for partioning for more OS

It means they have to wipe off the contents of ur drive (or part of ur drive if u have more than one partition) including ur opertaing system (i.e. windows) and install everything again. You will lose ur current data so get a backup of everything that u need.

they told you for format the pc. if your going to do that back up all ur files an have your win xp and drivers for ur pc befor you do anything like that all your files will be gone
