I just happen to wonder which public restroom do cross gender use? Ok, there's a GUY who's considered a girl that just started working here, he looks like a girl but u could tell he's a guy, and I tried to see which restroom he goes into but haven't had any luck. There's a gay dude also that uses the guy's restroom, but that's obvious. So, where do he/she and she/he go when they have to go? I will try to ask someone I know but my curiosity just occured here at work. I've recently found out "she" was a guy.

No I'm not the gossip queen. It just never occurred to me before. I understand if you're gay and go into ur sex's restroom, but if ur a cross dresser or tranny I guess u can use what u look like since u are who u are. But wouldn't be weird if a gay person uses their restroom and is checking someone out? I agree with using the restroom you look like and if u are a girl or guy and uses ur restroom, it's okay too since ur still the same sex. I suddenly realized there's a difference with being gay and truly being a different sex than what u are. I know a gay friend and a lesbian friend who uses the same sex restroom. But none cross gender.

People of transgender are the sex that they are inside. It takes a lot of courage to live as they are meant to due to people who don't or won't understand. Your co-worker is a woman in soul mind and heart. She has a birth defect that can be corrected. Please treat her with respect and kindness, she is having a hard enough time just living day to day among folks who giggle or hate for no reason. I bet she is awesome but could use a friend, after all she has been living as a male and still is learning to be the woman she really is. She should use the woman's bathroom of course!!!!

A female-to-male (FTM) transgendered person who is completely dressed as a female would probably be BEATEN TO DEATH if they tried using a "mens" restroom! They would also FEEL exactly the same as a "natural" woman would if she were to have to use a "mens" restroom - think about that!

If she is truly a transsexual she should use the bathroom of the person she is portraying. If Female to Male He should use the men's room if Male to Female she should use the women's room and for crossdressers If he is in he clothes the men's room if she is in Woman's clothing the ladies room. We are there to use the bathroom not looking for sex, or to upset anyone. Please try to remember She has always felt in the wrong body and calling her, him is tough on the person in transition.

As you seem to recognize, this is a very complicated issue for transsexual individuals. Ultimately, it is an individual choice depending on what stage of transition one is going through. Some individuals will choose to use the bathroom corresponding to their "natural" sex until they have started hormone therapy or gone through another form of medical transition. Others do not care about the status of their biological transition and will start using a different bathroom when they feel that they can comfortably "pass" as a member of the sex with which they identify. In that case, a female-to-male might wait to use the men's bathroom until they feel that an outside observer would probably recognize them as male. Still others might go ahead and use the bathroom of their choice without regard for the status of their biological transition or whether or not they can "pass" as a member of the sex with which they identify. Again, it is a very personal decision and can have serious implications in terms of safety, social acceptance, and self identification.
My personal opinion is that there should be more gender neutral bathrooms available and our society should be willing to recognize that not everyone falls squarely into categories of "male" and "female". I would prefer to share a bathroom with members of the opposite sex rather than put transsexual individuals in the awkward position of having to choose which bathroom to use. I hope that in your relations with this co-worker you help create an atmosphere in which he or she (you don't specify exactly whether this is a male-to-female or female-to-male transition) feels as comfortable and safe as everyone else.

If he's just a cross dresser, he should probably use the men's bedroom. If he is a male to female transgender, he should use the female restroom.

I agree that "she" should be able to use the female toilets but really who hasn't been busting and used the only available toilet you could even if it was for the opposite sex?

Ouch..be real careful of that question in my city. The law in San Francisco is " you may use the bathroom of the gender that you perceive yourself to be". I went to the public library. Men said "wrong bathroom". Women said "wrong bathroom". So...what? I use the side of the building? If someone presents themselves as female, are in the bathroom, chances are they are there to tinkle. Not to molest women, but to tinkle. (thats kinda like urinating, but with a song in their hearts).EVERYONE needs to get over this.

I think the male goes into the male bathroom until he goes in for surgery. Then he officially becomes female. But I think as long as they use the stalls, it's all good :)

Transgender people use which ever toilet that they IDENTIFY with. Regardless of the genetalia they currently have. If they dress and like to be referred to as a female, then that the loo they'll use.
