I play both bass and piano... and yes, the notes are the same. However, you have to be specific about your use of the word "techniques." Fingers and hammers don't work quite the same way.

The piano is a wonderful thing, and easily translates most instruments. Many composers of songs made famous by a specific instrument were actually composed on a piano.

You are fortunate to play both piano and bass. Keep up with both of them.

Good luck!

I'd say yes because I've never had a piano lesson in my life and I can figure out some things on piano because I know how to play the guitar. The only question is why - why not just take piano lessons in the first place?

First off learn to read bass tab then start playing little tunes on the bass guitar the quite easy to make up (i recommend you start at the 5th fret on any string and carry on from there) after doing that for a certain amount of time you will get used to moving up and down frets and you will be able to read bass tab then just learn some easy riffs and slowly advance. :)
