Because they are American. An american used to be in my class at school and he had no sense of humour whatsoever... we were playing jenga with chairs and they all collapsed just as a teacher came in - everyone was in hysterics except for him who was quite upset. I don't understand it

I'M married to an American and she has a great sense of humour, after all she married me. We lived in Florida for ten years and had a great time, I would say that on the whole the people I met were fantastic, Great sense of humour very friendly, generous etc etc. But people all over the world in all countries are much the same. Just because the ones you personally know have no humour does not mean the whole country is the same. Or perhaps its you're not as funny as you think you are.

Really? I thought that was the Germans that were supposed to be devoid of humour! Some of the funniest people on this earth come from America, Robin Williams, Steve Martin and Ray Romano to name but a few. The only thing about the Americans is the way they spell differently and have poor gramatical structure sometimes. America I'd say at the moment is a better place to live than Britain, I'd move there like a shot if I could afford it!

first off F*ck you everyone that said americans do not get sophisticated humor and cheers to everyone that supported or at least spoke of American and its ability to laugh or tell a joke, Most people in Europe know the simpsons and sienfeld, that is classic american humor, then you have all the Wes Anderson films (bottle rocket, rushmore, royal tenembaums, life aquatic) hilarious. and what do you think monty python is sophisticated humor. Yet you make fun of american farty jokes (may I quote the french castle guard from the holy grail...I fart in you general direction pplbblaaaaa) I have been watching monty python since I was 12 years old and have loved it. British humour is hilarious, I love the origional office, trigger happy and Guy Ritchie, but tell me pulp fiction is not a laugh out loud movie, plus don't the british have dirty sanchez (which the name alone is disgusting) a poor imitation of a stupid stunt show, I am getting a bit tired of the over generalizations poeple make about americans, we are a country split in two and there are 300 million of us and we are made up of all your countires so to say americans do not have a sense of humour is total bullocks, I can make poeple laugh all over the world and I am doing so now because I am going to school with a bunch of europeans in europe and I am positive none of them would say I don't have a sense of humour,

I'm an a American and I must have a good sense of humor to answer this...surprised how much American bashing goes on here.........
I read that we don't get Benny Hill? Really? Many Americans have for years been big fans of Benny Hill, Fawlty Towers, Absolutely Fabulous.......during the Grenwich Village Halloween parade in Manhatttan each year (which is incredibly fun & humorous) many of the gay men have dressed up as these women in AbbyFab.......and lets not forget that if we have a president like George Bush.....we certainly must have a sense of humor? THe Americans also have had many funny actors over the years......Marx Brothers (yu probably wouldn't get it); Woody Allen (yes a bit of a prig personally but very funny); Robin Williams; Billy Crystal...............well, I guess you really just wanted to bash us......right?! Why is it if someone is being prudish they ask if they are English? But hey I don't want to bash the UK.....always liked your humor and appreciate it immensely.......

The evil Illuminati's mass brainwashing agenda has worked really swell on the American herd landscape!
That's my explanation of 'why' it is possible to make America laugh at things that I'd find out of character in the humor department.
People’s minds a hard-wired, preprogrammed to recognize a familiar comedian or a cartoon face and laugh at it, no matter what.
The studio audience laughs. America laughs.
Stories about geeks, intellectually challenged people and blondes generate laughs.
A Hollywood brat vandalizes a celebrity's car. America laughs.
That's not nice.
It's sad that in my country (I'm in Asia), people follow the new American humour. I don't get it either.
Desperate Housewives is probably the only modern show I find actually funny - a good achievement, considering that it’s a drama!
Schwarzeneggar and Jackie Chan are funny. Wait a minute, aren't they action heroes and not comedians? I'd rather laugh with Arnie or Jackie than at a sit-com!
And as a Yahoo member, I suspect many don't get my less hard-hitting, dark sense of sarcasm either; hence the thumbs down! Oh well...

The do have a sense of humour but its just different to ours. I think the fact that they have a different sense of humour and saying they don't have 'any' a bit strong............... However if you want to talk about the Germans, now your talking. I worked for a German company, definitely no humour there.
