I thought it came from the theory that homosexuality came from the Greek peoples. Like the all male, nude Olympics, the islands of Lesbos...etc...

There's absolutely no proof at all that "greek style" has anything at all to do with the Greeks.
But I have to say from my own experience as a gay man that the Greek men I have "been with" seem to prefer this type of sex. They like to be on top. Personally, I dislike "greek style" intensely. Not all gay men like to be boinked.
