4 years ago, at the age of 54, I was told I had a brother somewhere in Germany (a wartime romance) My dad knew only the name of the girl and where she lived in 1945. After 2 years of fruitless letter writing to various organisations, I emailed the registrar of that town who sent me some information. Finding German telephone directories on their Embassy website, I found a possible link. Within a week I had received a call from my brother, overjoyed that I had found him at last - more overjoyed to know his father was still alive ( now 86!) Since then, there have been visits to England and Germany - first ever father/son meeting was very emotional - and regular chats via webcam. Has anything like this happened to any of you?

I've been researching my family tree and the Internet has made the whole process a lot faster and easier. As a result of the net I had found my mothers brother and sister that we had not seen in about 25yrs. 3/4 Weeks ago we had a reunion with them and my cousins.

So yes I agree with you totally.

First off, to your story...WOW! That is truly exciting and congrats to yoru entire family!

My story is rather small compared to yours, but my Mother used the Ellis Island online records to discover her paternal grandmother had lied about her father's age and name. It's a long, complicated story, but it turned out he was a year older than we thought and we discovered he wasn't born here, but instead in Italy. As we dug further we even discovered where exactly in Italy he was born and found pictures of it.

It explained a lot for about grandpa to us because we had always felt he was hiding something and we finally discovered what it was...he thought he was an illegal alien. In reality he wasn't due to one of his parents being an American citizen before he was born, but he lived his entire life in fear of being discovered when it turns out there was nothing to discover! My grandmother and mother had a good cry over it, but it cleared up so many things for us.
