Excellent question! I say this because I have been debating with my friends for years about this matter.
We used to be out for a birthday and at midnight everyone would say happy birthday. But to me it never felt right. I always felt the new day should start at 6am the next morning when its light outside.
I am relieved to see that someone else also considers such trivial matters. I am not the only one.

Depending on which branch of Judaism, some say sunset ends the day and starts the next, some say 6 pm is end of day and starts the next.
I am not Jewish, but I kind of vacillate between midnight being the day's end and the next one's beginning, and occasionally I base it on when I go to sleep as the day ending, and when I wake up as the day beginning. But that is no good, and I sometimes works several days without sleep, so I'll go with midnight.

Well you can answer this a number of different ways.
1) Scientific - after 23 hours and 58 minutes roughly the Earth completes one rotation and thus a new day starts.
2) Personally - When one wakes up after sleep it's a new day.
3) Philosophically - There are no such things as days. OR Life is just one long day.
4) Smart alecly - Well on Mars a day is....on Alpha Centaria a day is...
5) etc.

I am a night owl and I stay awake all night long. I wake up at noon (12pm) and I don't go to sleep til about 4am. But when you are talking about a calendar day..Yes a normal day ends at midnight. Because one minute after midnight is the next calendar day.

Midnight. I work the 3rd shift. So, I come in on one day ( at 11PM) and end on a new day. Believe me, it's confusing at first. But, you learn to look at the clock and say- " It's Thursday now and not Wednesday anymore."

To me it's when I go to bed and wake up. Even if I don't go to bed until 9:00 AM, I still see that as the day before whenever I wake up later that day.

Midnight. You can stay up for three days straight, but that doesn't mean it's still Wednesday!
