Stop thinking in terms of giving up. That automatically has you in a mindset of loss, and going without, this in turn increases the intensity of cravings, because you are denying yourself something you want.
Think instead of starting a healthier and happier lifestyle, freeing yourself from the clutches of the nicotine and becoming a better person. See the cravings not as you needing something that you are addicted too, but as the parasites in your blood that are there because you have been smoking, and therefore your blood will be unhealthy too, with parasites, germs, viruses in there. Think of the cravings as these parasites fighting for their lives.
It's NOT you craving a cigarette, but the unhealthy parts of you trying to survive, but you are replacing those parts with healthier parts. Clean healthy blood.
Becoming a healthy non-smoker should be an easy pleasurable experience, and it can be. I used the above to "give up" smoking. after attempting to quit for years and failing, I found the above to be really helpful and provided me with the strength to see it through. no patches, no hypnosis, no gum, and no will power. Just logic and reason and a better way of thinking.
Stop fighting against yourself and enjoy becoming smoke free and healthier in alignment with your better self.
I have been smoke free for 3 years now and I have found it easy this time

I gave up smoking more than a week ago and I'm not looking back - all you need is some inspiration!
I'm amazed at the things I can taste and smell now,
I notice how stinky people who smoke are, and use way less salt on my food!
My boyfriend was inspired by me and stopped yesterday, however he has taken 3 days off work.
If you can't do it alone, he is using "NicAssist 2mg" from Boots- a small tablet placed under the toung to relieve your nicotene cravings... and it only costs £14 for 105 tablets (also comes as inhalator and patches).
It works as he has made it through the first day without geting cranky!
PS - don't fall into the trap of eating fruit or sweets whenever you have a craving - you'll get fat!
Instead have a glass of water in front of you, and take a sip each time.

A threatening medical report will help. Say, visit a doctor and have yourself, especially your lung, examined. Find out how your lung is coping up with your smoking habit. Get a discouraging result that will make yourself think twice about lighting yet another stick of cig. But I highly doubt you'd ever visit a doctor at all. Thinking of it alone makes you feel ashamed of hearing whatever the result may be... what more when you finally do it?
However, there are many ways but you can try the following if you really want to stop smoking -- but it will take a great deal of discipline to succeed:
1) When you feel like smoking, take deep breaths. That will cause you to relax -- obtaining the same feeling you get when you smoke.
2) When you feel like lighting a cig, postpone it and find something else to do.
3) Exercise thoroughly.
4) Drink a lot of water.
5) Chew sugar-free gum and make it a regular habit.
6) Browse for photographs of lungs damaged by cigs.
You can easily assume the benefits you'll get if you stop smoking. I strongly suggest for you to achieve them. Be a winner. ^__^

Take the first two days of work off! Or you will find yourself friendless, I'm not kidding! The first week is the hardest and after that you have it licked if you stay away from others that do smoke. Ive done it many many times. Be prepared to gain weight, at least ten pounds and maybe more. If you are afraid to gain the weight then loose the unwanted pounds first before you attempt this. If you have a spouse or a loved one, send them away for a couple of days until the withdrawals wane off. I told myself this is what I wanted and no Ifs ands or Butts about it! Only you are in control of quitting and nobody else can do it for you so just make up your mind to do it. Nothing in life is easy and don't expect this to be any exception. You'll want to sleep for the first day or two anyway until the sweats wane also. I'm telling you it is the equivalent to a heroin addiction! Its awful and to think smoking is perfectly legal! Go figure. Anyway just pure determination and you will succeed. One day at a time and one minute at a time, you can do it. I believe you can so just make up your mind.

so ppl that wanted to quite smoking started out of the sudden but i don;t think that's the good way, and few really succeeded in doing that. it depends on how much u smoke. But as a recipe i can advise u to take it slow, first start smoking fewer cigarettes after that when u want to smoke a ciggie drink a tea or yeah a candy or anything else that make u happy and keeps u satisfied, after that u should give up smoking and continue with the thing that u choose to replace one cigarette(be careful what u choose in replacing the ciggie nothing that can make u addicted to it or has a bad influence on your body, u can choose tea that the best way like black tea or green tea or even fruits tea) and beside that u can use a lot of products that can make u stop the urge to smoke even cigarettes that don't contain tobacco like the ones from natural herbs(of course they smell awful, but at least they are calming the rush) and many others...............and in the end its how strong is your will to give up smoking, if u want u can even search for some medical details about what smoking does to your lungs and everything see a healthy lung and a smoker lung that's for sure a turn off, even meet ppl that are suffering of lung cancer because they were smoking too much.......... good luck.

I highly recommend the patch. I am not proud that I was a smoker, but I am so glad that I beat it. You are not supposed to smoke while on the patch because it can make you sick. If you use the patch, don't smoke while on it, and eventually you will hvae cravings less and less until you no longer need the patch. It took me about 3 months. I also made sure that I invested time each day in prayer about my willingness to quit, and it helped me to persevere and have the strength to stop. Without that reflection, and without that time with God, I don't think I would have been able to get through it. Good luck, and if you ever need to talk, feel free to e-mail me at anytime. God bless. Miss Alexis

They say first you must want to,then you must set a date write it down and think to yourself on that date i will not smoke, its the best way because then you are in charge of yourself.

It comes from you and you alone. If you really want to give up the fags, then you should want to do it for yourself and for no-one else.
When tough times come around, having a smoke isn't going to solve your problems or make them go away, it wont even make you feel better really.
When your ready to pack it in you won't even need to ask anyone how to do it.
Keep trying, I'm sure you'll succeed if you really want to.

i am having the same problem ,almost died because of smoking ,gave it up so that i could breathe again, then when i recovered slowly was back smoking again ,
this is the hardest addiction that i know of ,very difficult to get rid of ,
i think they put chemicals in the sigarettes to make them addictive as well as making them burn fast.
Good luck ,you will need all of the will power that you can muster ,ask your friends to bug you if you smoke again ,mine do ,and still i am smoking again
the patches work but you cant buy them forever because they are very expensive
