I recently got my oil changed on the 4th of October and yesterday the oil light flashed on than cut off. I checked my oil and I put in 2 quarts. How often should u have to put oil in a car on average. I think that the oil was burned too quickly, am I right?Or do you think it was about time for more oil

I checked it and it was low 3 weeks after the oil change. It is a nissan 200sx, it has 69,000 miles on it

The car is not smoking, nor does it smell like oil is burning

sure sounds like an oil leak to me. Put a piece of cardboard under the engine after you drive the car for awhile. Allow it to sit. Look for oil spots. If you see them, you have an oil leak.

But there are other possiblities too. Hopefully, it is just an oil leak. If not, this could be a MUCH bigger problem.

NOTE: if you just keep the car filled with oil to the recommended level, even if you have to add a quart per week, you will generally be ok. Just don't let it ever get to empty or near empty. By doing this, you will buy yourself some time to find out what the problem is, and whether or not it is worth fixing.

Since the oil was just changed, I would STRONGLY SUSPECT that the people who changed the oil did something wrong. I would definately take it back to them. Could just be a loose filter, or more likely, a loose oil PLUG. Note that both of these will cause dripping under your car, if you use the card board test.

Take it back to them and tell them.

Do what is logical, since you just had it changed and added 2 quarts it appears the filter is leaking or the drain plug. Take it back and get it on a lift, better safe than sorry. If it has actually burned that much oil it will be smoking soon, the rings are gone.
I had a brand new car and took it to a fast lube, I drove it 2 miles and smelled the oil too strong. I opened the hood and they didn't put the fill cap back on!

ALWAYS check your oil after it is changed, especially if you did not change it yourself. Your oil consumption is not normal. I don't know how much you had originally but if you need two quarts then something has blown. Check to see if you are producing any smoke when you drive. Make sure you are not losing oil from your oil filter or drain plug. I personally put in at least 2 quarts between oil changes. I also put in 3000 miles easily in two months so I have it changed every 5-6000 miles.

Way to quick for 2 quarts of oil. Must be leaking somewhere. Check the drain plug and see if it is tight. Look at the oil filter and see if its tight. unless its a very high mileage car that burns a lot of oil you shouldn't be down 2 quarts in 3 weeks.

Most repair places are more than happy to get a second chance to fix something they goofed the first time, rather than getting a bill from another company to fix their screw up.
My point is, bring the car back and let them look at it. It is probably leaking either from their service or they failed to tell you that you have an oil leak.

That depends on what car you have, hold old it is, and how many miles it has. If it has high miles you should put in valvoline max life. it should help reduce how much oil your car burns.
