Embolism is an obstruction or occlusion in the circulatory system that migrates from one part of the body to another...like a blood clot. So sad that this has happened to your friend! I hope she makes a full recovery

An embolism occurs when an object migrates from one part of the body and causes a blockage of a blood vessel in another part of the body.
Do you know what type of embolism your friend suffered? There are several different types that can be associated with pregnancy and delivery. Some more catastrophic than others.
I hope that your friend improves.

Wow, not that common but it does happen, sorry to hear of this.
An embolism can be fat, air or a blood clot. Most likely a clot, the blood clot circlates and can lodge any where in the system depending on where it originated, the lungs, the brain etc...

A clot...my dad just suffered from a pulminary embolism and died....it can cause a lot of damage if not treated in time!

A blood clot. Depending on what artery it blocks it can cause a lot of harm.

a tiny blood vessle bursting. could be in the brain or lungs or anywhere, however the coma would likely say it was in the brain.
