One of the most interesting forms of insect behaviour is exhibited by the social insects, which, unlike the majority of insect species, live in organized groups. The social insects include about 800 species of wasps, over 1,000 species of bees (including semi-social bees), and the ants and termites. Characteristically, an insect society is formed of a parent or parents and a large number of offspring. The individual members of the society are divided into groups, each having a specialized function and often exhibiting markedly different bodily structures. For discussion of the organization of typical insect societies.

I would say the best insect species to study for this topic would be honeybees. I had to study them for a linguistics course I took in college. Their behavior goes beyond anything I've heard of before, and they actually have their own "dance language." When the bees who scout out new sources of food return to the hive they communicate the location of a food source in a fascinating series of steps in a dance which describes the direction from the hive, how far to fly, etc. You could do a very lengthy report or discourse just on the language of the honeybees. Plus, it's fascinating. Good luck with your project!

Insect communicate by giving out chemical scents called pheromones. Their feelers are the "noses" that pick up these scent.

Different scents are given for different messages. For example, a scent trail can be left by a leading insect so that others of its kind can follow it to a food source. When bees sting, they give a scent telling the other bees to do likewise.

That is an interesting topic.

Firstly, I would say what communication is and why it is important in insects. I would then choose about 5 insect species ( one example is bees) and then describe how they communicate.
