I have read some answers given about why cold sores form and understand it is viral and possibly brought on by stress and diet and temperatures.... My question is this: If they are viral will the fluid excreted from a cold make you sick?

No, if you get one, put a liquid roll on deoderant on it and watch it dry up over night. Cold sores is a form of herpes and is more like an infection of a nerve.

ha! you are already ill if the sores are excreting fluid.. If you are asking about others and if you can get ill from their oozing sores. YES.. viral cold sores are highly contagious.. Never kiss someone with a cold sore.. Its another form of herpes.. Once you get his virus, its not curable. will stay dormant in your body and yes, stress, allergies, diet etc will make it flare up.. sometimes bad outbreaks, sometimes weak ones.. painful also.. I have a cold sore that comes and goes at times since childhood. I find that tea tree oil helps the bumb go away quicker.

It will not make you sick but it could spread on other parts - like partners and yourself. Don't touch it just go to the pharmacist and get something.
